Play therapy is an evidence-based child therapy approach that helps children express emotions, experiences, and unmet needs through play—their natural language. Our play therapy services in Fort Collins and Northern Colorado support children who may be struggling with challenging behaviors, big emotions, trauma, or difficulties with emotional and behavioral regulation.

We work with children experiencing trauma, tantrums, aggression, defiance, impulsivity, anxiety, emotional outbursts, difficulty following directions, school-related behavioral concerns, and transitions or family stressors. Using developmentally appropriate, research-backed approaches such as Sand Tray Therapy and Synergetic Play Therapy, we help children make sense of their inner world in ways that feel safe and empowering.

Play therapy helps children build emotional awareness, self-regulation skills, frustration tolerance, and problem-solving abilities, while also strengthening confidence and healthy attachment. Caregiver collaboration is an essential part of treatment, supporting families in understanding the why behind behaviors and learning strategies that promote connection and lasting change at home and school.

At our practice, we view challenging behaviors as communication, not defiance. Through play therapy, children are supported in developing the emotional skills they need to feel understood, regulated, and successful in their daily lives.
